TUDOR GARAGE & SOLARIUM
CLIENT: PRIVATE CLIENT
LOCATION: DETROIT, MI
YEAR: 2023
Design drawings for a new Tudor Revival inspired garage, mudroom, and solarium in Detroit's University District. The garage takes cues from the existing home's half-timbering to create a striking starburst pattern on the gables. With windows all around, a seven-foot square skylight, extended sills for plants, and a dramatic patterned tile floor, the addition will be the perfect place for relaxing, entertaining, and for the owners’ cat to spend all day basking in the sun. A small stucco and half-timbered mudroom adds much needed entry and storage space off the back door. Tying all the various parts together, the site plan integrates landscaping, a large patio with a pergola and fire pit for entertaining, and a custom Ipe fence.

The seven-foot pyramidal skylight collaborates creates a kaleidoscopic effect day and night across the high gloss panted ceiling

Leaded glass windows and a bold checkerboard floor create two grids that play off each other
Deep black paint and classic molding details create a rhythm of shadow and highlight across the walls
