CERAMICS SCHOOL
CLIENT: CERAMICS SCHOOL
LOCATION: HAMTRAMCK, MI
YEAR: 2021
Design and drawings for a ceramic-centric community art school and artist residency program located in Hamtramck, MI.  Ceramics School enables accessible contemporary art education via classes, studio access, and a spectrum of public programing. The design allows for their flexibile programing through moveable tables and pottery wheels, drop down power, radiant heated floors, and copious storage along the exterior walls. Working with the client, who brought their own design touches in the form of mosaics, a custom stained glass door, a central discoball—and of course all of the artwork!—the design embodies Ceramics School’s ethos of "a safe, supportive, critical, and communal space for art making and education".

The space is designed for multi-use, with space for group classes, independent work, and community programming.

Shelving along the windows showcases a range of work and plants. Featured works by Henry Crissman and Virginia Rose Torrence.
